The airports below all have scheduled public passenger services provided by airline carriers. Some are international airports providing services to and from the Untied States while others only have services to other European countries. Only international airports have boarder control and customs to accommodate the arrival and departure of passengers form other countries.

Europe’s Busiest Airports

Some of Europe’s largest and busiest airports will offer you the best choices for non-stop flights from the US. These airports also serve as hubs for European airline carriers so your choices are better for getting connecting flights to other European destinations. This will help eliminate lost time laying over at certain airports or cities. 

The COVID pandemic impacted all air travel for 2020 through 2021. For sometime London’s Heathrow Airport has been Europe’s busiest airport but, the United Kingdom’s strict travel procedures impacted the UK more than other countries. Other countries that had limited restrictions, like Russia and Turkey, saw a smaller decrease in passenger activity.

1 – Istanbul Airport open in October 2018 with all passenger service transferred from the old Atatürk airport in April 2019. Passenger totals include both airports for 2018 and 2019.

2 – Berlin Brandenburg open in October 2020 replacing Tempelhof (closed in 2009), Schöenfeld and Tegel airports. Remaining passenger services were transferred in 2020 to Brandenburg. 2019 and 2020 totals include both Schöenfeld and Tegel.
