Sun & the Beach

With Europe being a major peninsula and having multiple peninsulas extending out in all directions, it is practically surrounded on all sides by water. Only 12 of Europe’s 46 countries do not border a sea or ocean. That makes for miles and miles of coastlines and wonderful beaches. It is a no wonder that some of Europe’s beaches are considered the best in the world when compared to those in the Caribbean, South Pacific, South America and Asia.

During the summer months, especially August, Europeans flock to Southern European countries and their beaches to worship the sun. While some beaches are not as sandy as those in the tropics, it doesn’t stop them from being some of the most popular in the world. A beach where you can relax and have a view of a castle and the

at the same time is special.

The countries below have some of the most significant coastal areas for many beaches and resorts.

 CROATIA

The Adriatic coast…
Starting at the Istria peninsula in Croatia, in the north, it heads southeast along the Adriatic coast all the way to Albania. It is dotted with hundreds of islands, scenic bays and great beaches. It also has historic old cities and ruins of Roman and Venetian empires, 🏛 UNESCO World Heritage Site Dubrovnik and Spilt.

 FRANCE

The French Riviera…
Also know as the Côte d’Azur, starts on the boarder with Italy in the east and extends to Cassis in the west. It has lured the rich and famous for centuries to coastal locations like Nice, Monaco, Cannes, Saint Tropez, Eze and Antibes.

 GREECE

The Aegean Islands…
Greece has thousands of islands across the Aegean Sea. The largest is Crete with other highly popular islands like Delos, Hydra, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Rhodes and Santorini.

The Ionian Islands…
On Greece’s west coast lie the Ionians with islands like Kefalonia and Zakynthos. The island of Kerkyra is home to Corfu.

 PORTUGAL

The Algarve coast…
Along Portugal’s south coast on the Atlantic Ocean from the boarder with Spain in the east to Sagrés at the west end, many flock to this area with 300 days of sunshine year round..

 SPAIN

The Balearic Islands…
An archipelago of islands in the western Mediterranean Sea, near the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Highly popular with the students and young people for its nightlife.

The Canary Islands…
Spanish archipelago and autonomous community located in the Atlantic Ocean 62 miles west of the Morocco. The climate and beaches draw over 12 million tourists annually. 

Spain’s Costa Brava…
This popular coastline stretches from the French boarder to just north of Barcelona. A huge holiday destination with great beaches and wonderful summer climate.

Spain’s Costa Del Sol…
A famous tourists destination along the coastline of the Providence of Málaga from the cliffs of Maro in the east to Punta Chullera on the west. The warm weather year round make this area extremely popular.

 TURKEY

The Turkish Riviera…
Also know as the Turquoise Coast, it stretches over thousand kilometers from Turkey’s southern coast on the Mediterranean Sea to Cesme on the Aegean coast in western Turkey. Its climate, warm sea, mountainous scenery and fine beaches have made it highly popular.

 UNITED KINGDOM

The Jurassic coast…
England’s southern coastline along the English Channel from Bournemouth in Dorset to Exmouth in Devon. The Jurassic Coast is a  UNESCO World Heritage Site🏛.

Other than swimming and sunbathing beaches activities can include hiking, surfing, dune buggy’s, camping, sailing, scuba, snorkeling, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Many areas have large resorts or local towns with dinning, clubs, music concerts, museums and boutique shops.
