Berlin – Third Reich Tour

Had a very nice tour of Third Reich and current German government sites today. Our guide Ryan was from Scotland and had a degree in German history. He came to Berlin 8 years ago and decided to stay. He was very informative about WWII facts was well as Cold War insights. It is interesting how the two events are interwoven. Without the First World War we wouldn’t have had a Second World War and without a Second World War we wouldn’t have had a Cold War. Do you know the Soviets never called it World War II, they called it the Great Patriotic War.
Saw the Reichstad, Brandenburg Gate, and several buildings left from the Nazi ministry’s. Also visited several memorials to victims of the third reich. The Topograph of Terror is a documentation museum with hundreds of exhibits with pictures of the Nazi rule and it’s notorious leaders. I spent several hours reading the articles they had on display and the museum was free.
Checkpoint Charlie is a bust and has turned into a cheesy tourist trap. Souvenir shops and attractions that remind me of the Dells. Sorry Chris.
The pipes in the picture appear throughout Berlin. Berlin is built on swampy land and those pipes keep pumping water out of the ground to keep structures from sinking. If Hitler had his way and built his dream capitol Germania, with its massive structures, it would have sunk.
